What is an eVisa issued by the Immigration Department of Vietnam?

An eVisa is an official document issued online by the Immigration Department of Vietnam that allows a foreigner to enter and travel in Vietnam.

An eVisa is an alternative to a paper-based visa issued by the embassies of Vietnam. Instead of applying for visa at the embassies of Vietnam, the Immigration Department of Vietnam has now launched an e-VISA program, which enables you to apply for a visa online.

To obtain an eVisa, applicants must submit relevant personal information and pay the required fee by credit card (MasterCard or Visa) or PayPal.com. The eVisa will be issued after the submitted information has been assessed and found to meet relevant criteria.

When an eVisa application has been approved, the visa issuance system will send a notice to the applicant for a link to download and print the eVisa. You are required to present this eVisa at the immigration checkpoint for verification upon your arrival in Vietnam.

Who is eligible for an eVisa Vietnam?

Nationals of the following countries are eligible for an eVisa:

Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Belarus, Brunei, Chile, China (Not apply to Chinese e-passport holders), Colombia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea (South), Luxembourg, Myanmar, Mongolia, Norway, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Timor-Leste, Uruguay, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America & Venezuela.

Citizens of countries which are not in the list above can apply for visa on arrival (click here).

What conditions must the applicant’s passport meet for an eVisa?

An eVisa applicant’s passport must be an ordinary passport with remaining validity of at least six months upon arrival in Vietnam. Emergency, temporary, and other informal passports or travel documents cannot be used to apply for an eVisa Vietnam.

What documents do I need to prepare to apply for an eVisa Vietnam?

eVisa applicants must hold ordinary passport with validity of at least six months as of the date of intended entry into Vietnam.

  • A copy of passport page which contain personal information.
  • A recently taken photo (it should present full face, front view, eyes open without glasses, background should be plain light colored or white)
What is the validity of an eVisa of Vietnam?

The eVisa is a single-entry visa, and the maximum duration of stay in Vietnam is 30 days, which cannot be extended.

Do I have to enter Vietnam on the exact date specified on my application form?

No. The validity of an eVisa starts from the date specified in the approval form. eVisa holders can enter Vietnam on any date within the period of validity.

If my itinerary changes, can I apply to change the date on my eVisa?

You can use your eVisa if your entry date still within in the given period on your eVisa. Otherwise, you should reapply and obtain a new eVisa.

Do I need to obtain separate eVisas for people accompanying me?

Yes. Each traveler must have his or her own eVisa.

Can I obtain a multiple-entry eVisa?

No. Multiple-entry eVisas are not provided for eVisa.

I renewed my passport, can I enter Vietnam with this eVisa?

No. Your eVisa is invalid if this is the case. You must reapply and obtain a new eVisa. Otherwise, you will be denied entry into Vietnam by immigration officers at ports of entry, or, subject to approval, be instructed to apply for a visitor visa with additional visa fees.

I would like to stay in Vietnam for a period of time longer than the eVisa permits. What should I do?

You should apply for getting visa on arrival for multiple entry visa or stay more than 30 days.

How long before my travel date should I apply for an eVisa?

We recommend that you apply for an eVisa at least seven days before the actual date of travel.

I do not want to apply for an eVisa. Can I apply for a landing visa?

Yes, you can.

You can ask for getting your visa on arrival (also known as landing visa) if you enter Vietnam via international airports. You must have a visa approval letter from the Immigration of Vietnam to do that.
